Warzone 2.0 News?

Ivaneeh's picture

Hello there.

It's awful quiet about the new Warzone edition, isnt it? While Mantic is in full hype mode about the new Deadzone edition, I have lietrally zero information about the new Warzone, or am I missing something?

No you're not missing anything. Warzone has become super quiet since they announced 2.0. I'm trying to build the game in my area and it's a little tough because everything seems to be on hold. I'm hoping that Prodos starts showing something to build some hype that I can use to build on.

What's Prodos communication strategy anyway? As of now I see none. I'm on the same boat as you altasmurf. Kind of hard to drum some interest when everything's in the dark...

I think Facebook is pretty much their method of communication. I'm hoping a lot of this stems from Prodos trying to get their website going. I'm hoping we may see some preliminary info on warzone 2.0 so that we have a better idea about the direction of warzone.

It really does seem like the Facebook group is the primary method of getting anything done with Prodos (other than buying goods). I was very surprised to find that the old forums had shut down, with almost no notice. Any attempts I have made to get people on the facebook group to also use the forums or Reddit have been met with less than stellar results. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just atypical. Hell, just getting to this forum is harder than it should be.

In the case anyone doesn't know about the facebook group, here's the link

Last I heard for a 2.0 release was summer '16. But they are behind on their posted 6 month release plan on the group, so who knows whats going on. Here we are in May, and we've only seen teasers of the Fenris Bikers, and nothing for April. They seem to be pushing Space Crusade harder than anything right now.

@Bhblitzer
I also find it odd that the forums are so quiet, and even the old forums are lacking any official presence. I'm hoping these forums pick up steam a bit and there gets to be a stronger on line community.

As for warzone 2.0, in fact warzone in general, there seems to be more concern to churn out new product then building a strong base. I'm hoping once 2.0 comes out there becomes more of a plan to flush out the factions and just create a better presence amount the gaming community. As of right now the broker idea seems excellent but I sure can't convince anyone to buy into a game in limbo.

@altasmurf
That's the problem right now: there seems to be a problem to sticking to the plan. They announce a 6 month plan but then April comes around and nothing get's posted and without communicating to their base. Fastest way to lose support IMO.

In my books, the launching a new website is a major event. In this day and age, it's like re-opening your store after a major overhaul. They should of capitalized on this to boost traffic to the site and create interest in their products and company. Instead it appears out the blue! They could of at least of sent a memo to the people registered to their newsletter. Nothing...

Then again, it's not my company and I have no info on what's going on in the background. Perhaps there's more behind all this then I can glance.

As for Warzone 2.0 I do think that some Crusaders are still doing some test runs with certain mechanics. Someone from the Prodos team said that we should expect some news of the latest version later this month.

Unfortunately, I don't see a whole lot of traffic moving to this forum or anywhere else from the Facebook page. Which is a shame, it's a lot easier to post a battle report on a forum than on Facebook. I doubled the amount of subscribers on the MC subReddit, someone created years ago, but double subs does not equal double participation. Even as I type this, a new announcement has been made about some new (Brotherhood) models, likely the Visionaries, but that won't likely drive traffic here either.

In Maryland US, I've never been able to find more than 4 players in one spot, and that was over a year ago. I've not played a game of WRZ since December.

@ Feralzen
I agree they seem a little scattered. I get it, they're still handling AvP issues, trying to release space crusader, and juggling and new edition of warzone. But nothing turns off a customer base like lack of communication. We don't need to see all of 2.0's rules, just some previews or something that tells us what's going on. It's like the old saying, "throw us a bone."

@ BHBlitzer
I feel they really need to do something to funnel SE traffic here. Message boards can be a great place to garner interest. When I was first researching warzone I read the forums and checked out the battle reports. If I was to stable on to these forums at that point I probably would have written the game off to be honest. So here's hoping that the game grows, particularly in North America, as I'd really like to play it more than once in a blue moon.

I'm just getting back into warzone now after last playing the original version of the game about 15 years ago. My main concern is how much will change with this version 2 rules. Is it worth getting the cards etc or will they do a redesigned and make all the old stuff obsolete like some other game designers do. I want to pick up some more bits but I'm very hesitant with this change on the horizon.

DiStudios's picture

With the latest set of releases, I am hoping that 2.0 is now right round the corner for us. Let us hope that it reboots the momentum it initially had before AvP.

I know at Salute when I picked up my AVP stuff and asked about its wargame book, they said that it would be released along side warzone V2 rule book June/July time. So I hoped we might have heard some info on if this is a pure rules re-write or a complete overhaul. I'm guessing (hoping) with AVP rules heavily based on the Warzone rules that its just a book rewrite and all the cards etc.. stay the same.

Here´s a Little insight:

Behind the curtains, People are working quiet hard on the new Units AND the new rules. Saying "It´s very quiet" is the opposite of what is true: With the 6-month plan in place, there has been a steady flow of Releases and updates.

Yes, not all is Happening in the perfect timeframe, but I´d rather have good than rushed rules - and we really want to make them good. Listening to customers, having them playtested and proofed by multiple volunteers.

A lot of time has passed since the release of 1.0 and some rules have found to be obsolete and almost never used whereas others were overcomplicated or just too much for a tabletop game. The aim is to make it faster, easier for People to get in and Overall more exciting.

@dunnagh

I appreciate you chiming in. While I agree new units have have been coming in it's tough to want to get any when you're not sure where the game is going. As of I right now I have told people in my area perhaps hold off any purchases until WZR 2.0 comes out to make sure their units work like the want them to. It sort of sounds like what you're saying though is that it's more of a rules clean up than a re-write, if so that's great. I also I agree I'd rather see the job done right, but with the new website and blog section would be hard for some one from Prodos to toss up a quick blog say "this week we've been testing Rapid Deployment, and here's some of tweaks we've been looking at. Stay tuned next week for more..."

Once again thanks for shedding a little light on what's going on, because at least now we know something is going on.

@ FCWookie
What I've been saying to the guys around here is wait until 2.0 drops. Sounds sort of like there's not going to be anything drastic, but in the end you never know.

Streamlining and easing entrance to the system sounds great, I can't wait to see how this turns out.
